Browser game not loading? How to fix it
Last updated November 7, 2026
When a browser game is not loading, you usually see one of four things: a loading bar that never finishes, a black or white screen, a game with no sound, or a game that ignores your keys and taps. Most of the time the cause is a browser setting, an extension or the device, not the game itself, and the fix takes a minute or two. Start with the quick checks, then go to the section that matches what you see.
Quick checks to try first
- Give the first load a minute. The first time you open a game, your browser downloads all of its files. Small 2D games start in a few seconds, but large 3D games can take a minute or more on a slow connection. Later visits are faster because the browser keeps a copy.
- Restart the game. On Vogimo, press Restart in the bar under the player. It loads the game again without leaving the page.
- Try another game. Open a light game such as Brick Out. If it plays, your browser is fine and the problem is limited to the first game, so please tell us about it. If no game loads, the cause is your browser, device or network: keep reading.
- Try a private window. Open the game in a private window: Incognito in Chrome, InPrivate in Edge, or a private window in Firefox and Safari. Extensions are usually switched off there, and the files your browser stored earlier are not used. If the game works in a private window, an extension or those stored files are the cause.
The game is stuck on the loading screen
If the loading bar stops moving or the game never gets past its first screen, check these causes one by one:
- Ad blockers and privacy tools. Some games load parts of themselves from other servers, such as those of our game partner, and blockers sometimes stop those parts by mistake. Pause your ad blocker for vogimo.com and reload the page. In Firefox, click the shield icon at the left of the address bar and turn off Enhanced Tracking Protection for the site. In Brave, turn off Shields for the site. Antivirus programs and VPN apps can include the same kind of blocking.
- Damaged stored files. If a download was cut off, the browser can keep reusing a broken copy of the game. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete in Chrome, Edge or Firefox (Cmd + Shift + Delete on a Mac), tick only Cached images and files (in Firefox: Temporary cached files and pages) and delete them. Leave cookies and site data unticked, because many games keep your saved progress there. On a phone, follow Google's steps for clearing the cache in Chrome.
- Not enough memory. Bigger games can stop at 90% or 100% when the device runs out of memory, which happens most on phones and older laptops. Close other tabs and apps, restart the browser and try again.
- School and work networks. Many school and office networks block game websites or the servers that games load from. If a game loads at home but not on that network, the network is the cause, and only the people who run it can change that.
- An old browser. Newer games need a recent browser. Update yours, and on phones and tablets also install system updates: on iPhone and iPad, Safari is updated together with iOS.
Black screen or a WebGL error
Most modern browser games draw their graphics with WebGL, which uses your device's graphics chip. When WebGL is not available, the game shows a black or white area, or a message such as WebGL is not supported.
- Test WebGL. Open get.webgl.org. If you see a spinning cube, WebGL works and the cause is elsewhere.
- Turn on hardware acceleration. When it is off, browsers often switch WebGL off too. Our guide to fixing lag in browser games shows where to find the setting in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
- Restart the browser after a graphics crash. If the graphics chip crashes, Chrome can show the message Rats! WebGL hit a snag and keep WebGL blocked. Close every browser window, open the browser again and reload the game.
- Update your graphics driver. Browsers turn WebGL off on graphics drivers that are known to cause crashes. On Windows, run Windows Update or the app from your graphics chip maker (NVIDIA, AMD or Intel), then restart the computer.
- Leave fullscreen. If the screen goes black only in fullscreen, press Esc and play in the normal window.
No sound in the game
- Click or tap inside the game once. Browsers keep a page silent until you interact with it, so many games start without sound and turn it on at your first click or tap.
- Check the game's own sound button. Most games have a speaker icon in a corner or in their settings, and they remember if you turned the sound off last time.
- Unmute the tab. A crossed-out speaker on the browser tab means the tab is muted. Right-click the tab and choose Unmute site in Chrome or Unmute tab in Edge and Firefox. In Safari, click the speaker icon in the tab.
- Allow sound for the site. In Chrome and Edge, click the icon at the left end of the address bar, open the site settings and check that Sound is allowed.
- Turn off silent mode on iPhone and iPad. Many browser games stay silent while the device is in silent mode. Use the switch on the side of older iPhones, or the Action button or Control Center on newer ones, then turn up the volume.
- Check where the sound goes. If Bluetooth headphones or a speaker are connected, the game may be playing through them.
Keys, clicks or taps do nothing
- Click inside the game first. A game only receives your key presses while it has focus. If you clicked somewhere else on the page, click once inside the game. When the arrow keys or the space bar scroll the page instead of moving your character, this is the reason.
- Check the controls on the game page. Every Vogimo game page lists its controls. Games marked Desktop (keyboard) need a real keyboard and do not work on a touch screen.
- Turn your phone sideways. Some games only work in landscape and show a rotate message, or a blank screen, when the phone is upright. Check that rotation lock is off.
Your saved progress is gone
Browser games save your levels, scores and settings inside your browser, on that device only. That is why your progress does not appear in another browser or on another phone or computer. Private windows delete game saves when you close them, and so does deleting cookies and site data, so play in a normal window when you want to continue a game later.
Quick checklist
- The game had a minute to load, and Restart was tried.
- Another game, such as Brick Out, plays normally.
- The ad blocker is paused for vogimo.com, or the game works in a private window.
- Cached files were deleted, with cookies and site data kept.
- WebGL works at get.webgl.org, and hardware acceleration is on.
- The browser and graphics driver are up to date.
- For sound: you tapped the game, the tab is not muted and silent mode is off.
Still stuck? Email support@vogimo.com with the game's name or page link, your device, your browser and what you see on the screen. A screenshot helps a lot. If the game loads but runs slowly, read how to fix lag in browser games. On an older phone or a slow connection, light games load fastest: try match 3, memory or casual games.
