Plus, minus, times or divide: pick the missing sign

Math Signs flips the usual quiz around: the numbers are given and the operator is missing. An equation such as 14 _ 4 = 10 appears on a chalkboard, and you decide whether plus, minus, times or divide makes it true. A timer bar drains while you think, so the game trains quick number sense as much as raw calculation.

How to play Math Signs

  1. Look at the equation and the empty box between the first two numbers.
  2. Click or tap the sign, +, -, × or ÷, that makes the equation true.
  3. Answer before the timer bar empties to score and move on to the next equation.
  4. Running out of time ends the run, and your result is measured against your best score.

Tips to play better

  • When the result is a product you know from the times tables, such as 12 from 3 and 4, times is the answer.
  • A result much larger than both numbers almost always means times, while one smaller than both usually means minus or divide.
  • Narrow it to two candidates, then check just those instead of trying all four.
  • Speed comes from reading the size of the result at a glance, so build that habit before you rush.

Math Signs FAQ

How do I know which sign to pick in Math Signs?

Compare the answer with the first number. If it is larger, try plus or times; if it is smaller, try minus or divide, then pick the one that fits exactly.

Is Math Signs good practice for school math?

Yes. It drills all four operations and makes you think about how each one changes a number, which supports mental arithmetic in the early grades.
